For first time in my life, I have to cook, wash and pay for things myself. In previous years, I was heavily looked after and pampered. But as of 2011, I am an 'official' adult, so my parents thought "you can handle it yourself"... Can I?
Here is what we had the other night:
PESTO FETTUCCINE
INGREDIENTS:
- Pitted Kalamata Olives (from the Deli section of Supermarket)
- $2.85/100g
- Sun dried Tomatoes (from the Deli section of Supermarket)
- $3.07/100g
- Pesto Sauce
- $2.99 (190g/jar) but can be used to make at least 4 times this recipe
- Oregano
- $4.37 (Masterfoods, 18g)
- Black Pepper
- Salt
- Olive Oil
- Shaved Parmesan cheese
- $3.29 from Coles (125g/packet)
- 300g Fettuccine (Packet or Fresh)
- Normally $5.00-7.00, can't remember. I had some at home already.
METHOD:
- Cook Fettuccine in boiling water, add a teaspoon of Salt to water
- Drain Fettuccine when ready (taste test for personal preference of pasta texture)
- Leave to cool
- Meanwhile, Slice olives in half
- Once Fettuccine is cool, mix olives, sun dried tomatoes into bowl
- Add a dollop of Pesto Sauce
- Mix Pasta
- Add a pinch of salt, black pepper and oregano
- Drizzle olive oil to make pasta smoother
- Test taste and repeat for personal preference
- Chill in fridge and it's ready to serve!
JAPANESE POTATO SALAD

INGREDIENTS:
- 6 Potatoes
- $2.48/kg (6 Potatoes were 762g, so $1.89)
- 3 eggs (any type)
- One packet of Mediterranean Leaf salad
- $3.00/packet
- Kewpie Mayonnaise (Also known as Japanese Mayonnaise)
- $4.16/300g bottle
- Skin Potatoes
- Chop Potatoes into cubes
- Boil Potatoes until soft, mash potatoes into personal preference of texture (chunky or mashed)
Boil Eggs
Slice Eggs
Mix potatoes with eggs, Mediterranean salad (all) and 150g Japanese Mayonnaise - Chill in fridge and it's ready to serve!

- SERVES: 4 people
- VALUE: 8 / 10
so we had a heck lot of left overs for lunch the next day.
